I don't use the rear chase cam (looking forward) all that much, but I use the front-chase cam (looking back) a lot to check the success of bombing runs. Get behind and slightly below your victim, and don't start shooting until you get close, or you will tip them off and lose them.Because you will be suffering from the same view restrictions, make all use you can of the front and rear chase cameras. A pilot's view is heavily restricted in BF/DC, even more than in most flight sims, so your best bet for taking down another plane is to approach from their blind side - which is pretty well the whole sky except for their view-cone directly in front. The engines and the pilot in the cockpit are the most vulnerable parts of the aircraft, it's possible to take out an enemy plane with just a couple of shots if you can target those. I think throttle control is really important in the dog fights, and if you fly full throttle all the time you'll end up the loser to an opponent who is good at cutting speed to drop in behind a turning target, or to let and attacker speed past.BF bullets are projectiles with their own flight paths so you have to lead your target, and take into account how your own flight vector is changing. But if you are crashing on take-off maybe you could try changing it.The BF/DC planes can't stall IFAIK, so it's quite easy to cut your speed to nothing for a few seconds, float around like a paper plane for a bit, and then recover by standing on the gas again. I think that's the default, and I found when I was starting out (with keyboard) that it was quite natural. but it's better than seeing some idiot crash the B17 into a hill just after takeoff - View image here: -Īs well as a decent throttle, the best thing about a flight stick is using the twist-grip for the rudder - that's essential for me on the DC helicopters, but there are skilled DC Heli pilots who swear by the keyboard too.If you do stick with a keyboard it is possible to reverse the y-mouse axis for aircraft alone. View image here: - Ok, so it's not that hard to do. no throttle or reverse throttle, and coast down slowly.I guess maybe it means I'm a capable pilot that I can take the B17 and go 27-0 while landing and reloading twice with the mouse. you need to practice basically gliding to get there. and spot targets better. It's also good practice to learn to land planes (get more ammo). makes aiming a little harder, but you can stay in the air that way. carpet bombing is easy, staying low and out of the AA is the hard part.A tip: Planes react to your movements better when flying fast, so almost never go anything but full throttle. If you're having trouble with the horizon (crashing into water/land), try changing the view to "F10". them I did market garden to learn the B17. I did wake island until I could hit the defgun with a bomb 2/3 or so times. My suggestiong for learning is to make a lan game and practice. The bombers (torpedo plane, stuka, B17 and the like) are more stable so you're not as screwed without a joystick. I almost never bother with fighters, unless I feel like parachuting somewhere. you'll never win any dogfights, but you can still be productive. If there's a plane to be used, and it's some form of a bomber, I'll take it. As a bf1942'er with no joystick, I can tell you it is possible to fly with mouse and keyboard.
